It’s Valentine’s day.
The first of many, many days in which a new season begins.
A day in which we will learn the identity of our favorite NHL players and we will also see a new team, a new franchise, a young player, a franchise that was once a laughingstock but has now become a contender for the Stanley Cup.
The NHL will not disappoint.
Here are three things to know about the New Year’s Eve festivities:1.
The New Year will be the first time in franchise history that the team will have three players on the same roster.
It’s not a surprise that it happened.
The Flyers have always had two players on their roster: Nick Cousins and Shayne Gostisbehere, but now they have the flexibility to go to three.
They have been playing well together in the preseason, and Cousins and Gostiare were able to lead the team in scoring last year with 21 goals and 24 assists.2.
There are no plans for a new home for the Flyers.
There will be no arena in Philadelphia.
That is not a secret.
The team is building a new arena in Newark, New Jersey, for the 2020-21 season, and the lease is set to expire at the end of the season.3.
The teams will be competing for home ice in the Eastern Conference, which is currently held by the Tampa Bay Lightning and Washington Capitals.
The Lightning are in the middle of a playoff push that is shaping up as a long and arduous journey.
The Capitals are in a much better spot, having won a playoff series in Tampa, but have not won a Stanley Cup since 1993.
The Caps are tied for the best record in the West and have won the last seven games.
