The Indian government has announced that it will offer $50,000 to the winner of the Cricket World Cups 2019 and 2020, which will be held in the same city.
The announcement was made by Minister of State for Tourism and Culture Sushil Sharma in a tweet on Saturday, after the tournament ended in Mumbai on Saturday.
The Indian Cricket Board (ICB) said that the cash prize of $50 million would be shared equally with the three winners of the 2020 tournament.
This will be the largest cash award ever given to an Indian team in an international cricket competition.
The BCCI has also announced that the 2019 and 2021 editions will be played in New York, with the 2022 tournament scheduled to be held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
India finished third in the 2019 World Cup, but lost to Pakistan in the final in New Zealand.
